Sending threats to anybody is something that I obviously do not support but this story seems more than suspect to me. First of all, Senator Toni Boucher is known in CT as being the most reefer mad of any politician in the state. And secondly, the Senator with only releasing one inflammatory part of the email does not convince me that this was a physical threat of violence. Threat of physical violence? I'm not so sure. And if it's not? Senator Boucher might end up in court defending herself against some civil charges? Because her statements seem pretty damning. Sending an email addressed and intended to go to another activist with the words, "I'm going to go postal" is that absolutely, a threat of violence? I don't think it is. DANBURY -- An e-mail that allegedly threatened a local lawmaker landed an official of a marijuana advocacy group in jail.
State Sen. Toni Boucher, a Republican whose district includes Bethel, Redding and Ridgefield, said she was first informed about the "disturbing" e-mail Thursday.
It was written by Dominic Vita, 28, of Somers, vice president of the state chapter of National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws, a nonprofit lobbying group working to legalize marijuana.
When news of the e-mail broke, officials of the national organization promptly withdrew the chapter's affiliation.
"It was certainly disturbing, profanity-ridden, with direct acts of violence and warnings," Boucher, a long-time opponent of attempts to decriminalize marijuana, said Monday about the e-mail.
"There was something in there about what he would do to me physically, and that his tolerance has eroded and things would get really ugly soon."
She said a portion of the e-mail said, "Not sure if you've seen what these douche bags are up to at the capital, but I'm getting ready to go postal."
Boucher said she was not the intended recipient of the e-mail, but the author accidently sent the message into the state system.
"He was sending a response, a reaction to his president, and I think he pressed the wrong button," she said.
Capital police were informed about the e-mail by officials with the legislative Office of Information and Technology Services and on Friday charged Vita with disorderly conduct.
--------------------------
Wait he only got charged with disorderly conduct? When did disorderly conduct become the charge for "threatening violence"??
Why was Vita only charged with disorderly conduct and not harassment like has previously happened in CT with threats to state elected leaders?
If what is quoted is the full extent of Vita's claim, how does Boucher know it was a threat of violence? I don't see it and apparently from comparing the charges to past cases, neither do the police.
It's all about context. Vita could easily have meant that it was time to get tougher in the media on the Senator's continued reefer madness. "Going postal" from one activist to another, doesn't necessarily mean advocating violence. If somebody from NORML that I knew to be a peaceful activist sent me the same, I would assume that they were advocating for getting tougher in the press or with blogs, press releases, protests.
Vita is a Gulf War vet.
Senator Boucher "Veterans Deserve Our Support"
Senator Boucher supports the troops. Unless they speak out against her and make a mistake sending an email that was intended for another person?
If Mr. Vita decides to fight this I think this is going to be thrown out of court.
Trust this woman's words?
Senator Toni Boucher, a reefer mad zealot. She supports violent public policy that denies sick people their medicine. One that makes marijuana more easily available to young people. She supports a system that only profits drug dealers. And when she actually had a chance to extend a hand to a Gulf War vet with PTSD, she decided to call the cops and the newspapers.
Will she be sued civilly for libel? I'd say there's a better case for that than for Vita to be convicted.

Capitol Police Chief Michael Fallon said Vita claims he mistakenly hit reply, instead of forward after receiving an email from the Connecticut General Assembly Bill Tracking notice system. He said the email was not sent directly to Boucher, but the Information Technology System Help Desk alerted police to the email which was then shared with Boucher.
ReplyDeleteAccording to the court affidavit the email says: “David, not sure if you have seen what these douche bags are up to at the capitol, but I’m getting ready to go postal. Sen. Boucher is about to get my foot in his/her fucking face. My tolerance for these fucking worthless pieces of shit is rapidly eroding. Things are going to get really ugly soon.”
Its about time they got caught making these types of statements and threats. Obviously this guy was partaking as he was writing and sending. The whole marijuana makes you mello argument is now a proven falacy, which I have known for some time. Just check out other pro-legalization blogs, lots of agression out there. Better yet check out some anti-drug blogs like at http://dfaf.org and see how vocal the pro-legalizers are, and I am sure, since it states it right on their site, they are censoring the really bad ones out.
ReplyDelete>>>The whole marijuana makes you mello argument is now a proven falacy,
ReplyDeleteI hear it helps spelling though! Maybe you should try some
Hey JoJenn you are a bit whacky? I heard Jeffrey Dahmer drank milk. It's all the fault of milk, we must out law it. And Hitler liked Hershey bars. Got to stop the Hershey bar. And Saddam Hussein he had a beard. It's the beards fault. Must outlaw beards. Bin Laden, he drank coffee. It was the coffee's fault. Must outlaw coffee!
ReplyDeleteYep, thank goodness people in our state will continue to be arrested and prosecuted for using a safe, natural alternative to the dangerous, addictive products manufactured by the pharmaceutical companies who continue to pump millions of dollars into the troughs of disgusting criminal pigs like Toni Boucher.
ReplyDeletePot is not illegal because it's a threat to public safety, but because it's a threat to the profit margins of the all-powerful drug companies. NO other reason.
The English language cannot express my loathing for this woman.
