A few cops genuinely care about the common good. The AVERAGE cop is a power hungry authoritarian asshole who doesn't do shit with their lives, and is only a cop because they can't be any other kind of professional. And I don't know about the last guy, but I have definitely done more in my life than the average cop ever will.
ReplyDeleteMost cops genuinely care about the common good. It's just the ass holes that we hear about, and make a lot of people think of them as all bad people. I've met plenty of nice cops, and there are plenty of situations where I should have gotten arrested for breaking the law, but didn't because I wasn't hurting anyone in doing so.
ReplyDeleteNot all cops are authoritarian dicks. Not even most of them. Yes, there are more authoritarian dicks that are cops than other professions, but to label all or even most of them as bad is somewhat ignorant.
True, Patrick. Unfortunately there does exist that thing where cop's can't tell on other cops. I consider a few friends of mine, too. Former and current police officers. One a long time family friend, every time he sees me he jokes, "You got any contraband in that vehicle?" haha. Next time I see him I get to say, "Yeah, what are you going to do take it and smoke it, write me a $100 fine?" I helped with many others bring decrim to MA. Some police are definitely good people. I agree.
