MA Medical Marijuana Bill? Dispensaries or The Right To Grow Your Own Medicine?

MPP has hired the lobbyists O'Neil and Associates who have been working legislative meetings on medical marijuana. O'Neil and Associates? Yes, that O'Neil and Associates who ran the campaign with MA DA's against marijuana decrim Question 2.

One of the biggest concerns for medical users is the language of the medical bill. Will it be stripped and negotiated down to what was pushed in Arizona and New Hampshire? A dispensary only model, with no right to grow your own for medical reasons? If that's the case, I might not support the bill.

The question is why should I? I'm no longer in fear of arrest for my medical use. Dispensaries from what I've observed in other states are no bargain for medical users. And how will the dispensaries operate in "Taxachusetts"? If I can get an ounce of common on the street for $130, I can almost be sure that the dispensaries will sell at a higher price.

Without the right to grow my own, I for one will not be happy.

How about you?

New poll on the right. I'm interested in hearing from MA residents, please leave your comments. Out of staters are also encouraged to vote on the poll and leave messages. This trend of gutting medical marijuana bills didn't start in MA and won't end there. It won't end, unless we take a stand.

Dispensaries or medical grows? Or both? Vote on the poll.

On the one hand, I think it's a good sign of progress, that we are even discussing this. MassCann/NORML laid the ground work and MPP has done some work to even get it this far. Massachusetts is not the easiest state to get a medical bill passed through the state house. You'ld think with it's liberal reputation and with medical marijuana showing voter support of 80% it would be a slam dunk. Yet those that live here know differently. The MA legislature operates by their own rules. One of the reasons, many MA citizens are not happy with their state government.

Having said all that, isn't it time to back a bill that actually helps all medical users?
