Keith Stroup (Founder of NORML) and Lester Grinspoon To Testify at Wednesday's MA Hearing For Legalization

Boston, MA: State lawmakers will hear testimony next week in support of taxing and regulating the commercial production and distribution of marijuana for adults age 21 and older.

Members of the Massachusetts Joint Committee on Revenue are scheduled to hear House Bill 2929, 'An Act to Regulate and Tax the Cannabis Industry,' on Wednesday, October 14, at 10 am in Room B2 of the State House. House Bill 2929, along with its companion bill SB 1801, were introduced by request in March.

NORML founder and Legal Counsel Keith Stroup will testify in favor of the measure – along with NORML Advisory Board member Dr. Lester Grinspoon (Harvard Medical School emeritus) and members of NORML's state affiliate, the Massachusetts Cannabis Reform Coalition.

"Marijuana use is not a harmless substance. But this fact is precisely why its commercial production and distribution ought to be controlled and regulated by the state in manner similar to the licensed distribution of alcohol and cigarettes – two legal substances that cause far greater harm to the individual user and to society as a whole than cannabis ever could," says Stroup. "House Bill 2929 is a fiscally conservative, common sense proposal that will raise revenue, promote public safety, and limit young people's access to marijuana. It seeks to bring control to Massachusetts' untaxed, unregulated marijuana market and I encourage lawmakers to vote 'yes' on HB 2929."

For more information, please contact Keith Stroup, NORML Legal Counsel, or Allen St. Pierre, NORML Executive Director, at (202) 483-5500. Further information on HB 2929 is available at: or at:

RSVP on facebook to support this hearing and see who else is going, link to that at the right on this page. Not necessary to do this to attend but it helps get the word out.

Also say hello and look for me at any breaks in testimony or right after it's over, if you want to be in one of my videos related to this or medical marijuana. My aim is to interview any medical marijuana patients, college students, activists, those who provide testimony, attendees. If you have something to say, make sure you find me. (Mike Cann)
