Smokin' Boston Music Awards, marijuana in the air

Out on the side walk and in the hotel suites, cannabis was blazin' at the 2009 Boston Music Awards. Following up on last year's Termanology performance, the smoking theme definitely broke out big in 2009. No doubt about it, marijuana culture was in the air at this year's Boston Music Awards.

Will Dailey, a past MassCann/NORML Freedom Rally weekend performer led this years event with three nominations and didn't leave empty handed.

D-Tension, a big supporter of the cannabis and a past Freedom Rally act won the award for Best Hip Hop Producer.

Freedom Rally 20 performer's, Termanology, The Luxury, and Big Shug were also up for awards.

The biggest weed surprise of the night? The presentation for the Humanitarian of the Year to Ernie Boch. Newbury Comics owner, Mike Dreese revealed that he and car titan, Boch smoked "alternative" cigarettes in college. It clearly didn't stop either from being successful in business.

The dumbest: The dude who tried to pull a Kanye West. Did anybody else want to see that guy tossed over the railing?

Blunts were smoking in a suite party that brought together a diverse crew of hip hoppers and roots musicians. In the room, S/T Records, DraMatik, Will Dailey & The Rivals, Mike Cann, Rubble Bucket, Miss Micaela and Scott Gacek of

Big Shug closed out the event with DJ Reel Drama, Singapore Kane, and later a live backing band. "Purple Haze", decrim, and the smokers raising their arms.

  1. This is the best blog post I've ever read in my life. Thank you! I plugged it here:

  2. Awesome job MIKE..Wish I was there with you to help.

  3. Hey, Meghan, nice talking with you last night, thank you for the link.

  4. Next year, KOP, we'll have the mics, the whole set up, multiple crews, and the pro cams!

  5. Damn, why are the comments, stuck back on CAPS. Another thing to fix, haha.

  6. Wow, cool website, too and like the bands you are covering. The Organ Beats rule! I loved Damone and was sad to see them break up but I'm now loving The Organ Beats even more in a totally different way. They opened the last Freedom Rally in a tough opening spot and absolutely killed it. And the new recordings are crazy good.
