Rep. Jim Dwyer to co-sponsor MA medical marijuana bill

MA Rep Jim Dwyer
Bill Downing of MassCann/NORML writes,

"My Rep, Jim Dwyer, called me today in response to my email and said he will co-sponsor Smizik’s MMJ bill.

Jim was in the probation department in Woburn for 30 years and grew up with the Woburn cop who was killed a few weeks ago. I expressed my condolences on the loss of his friend and suggested one reason the parole board feels pressure to parole even violent prisoners, like the one who shot the Woburn cop, is prison over crowding. I suggested a major cause of over crowding was mandatory minimum drug sentencing, which fills cells with non-violent prisoners. Dwyer told me I sounded like Gerry Leone (Middlesex District Attorney who claimed an ounce makes a thousand joints).

Apparently Leone doesn’t like mandatory minimums?!?

Jim Dwyer gave me his cell phone number and told me to call him directly if I had any issues I’d like to discuss.

Still no word from my Senator, Katherine Clark."

Contact your state reps and senators to co-sponsor medical and legalization.

  1. What troubles me more is the inaccurate information that good people like Mr. Dwyer get.The mandatory minimum drug sentences does need to be changed. Nonviolent crimes need to be handled differently. obviously Mr.Gerry Leone never had an ounce and tried to roll 1000 joints with it.
