Women's Marijuana Movement takes action

Call on the CDC to examine the potential impact of making marijuana a legal alternative to alcohol.

Virtually every organization and government agency dedicated to researching and preventing sexual violence has identified alcohol as a major contributing factor to incidents of sexual assault and date rape.  Marijuana, on the other hand, has never been found to contribute to these problems.  Yet our laws prohibit and even punish those who prefer to make the safer choice to use marijuana, steering people toward drinking and fueling alcohol-related assaults.

If our government is serious about preventing sexual violence, it's time to start considering the possibility that marijuana prohibition is driving people to drink and fueling incidents of sexual assault and date rape.
