|MA State Senator Mike Barrett|
I think we in Massachusetts are going to have to talk with Governor
Patrick re the level of compliance by the medical community to the
recently (overwhelmingly) passed medical cannabis law. The Department of
Public Health has passed incredibly obstructionist regulations
(excessive fees, absolute minimum on number of patients someone can grow
for (one!)) and the directors of all
hospitals/medical groups have instructed their physicians that no one
can recommend cannabis to their patients, and patients trying to grow
are getting their plants destroyed.
The Governor needs to announce that there has been a paradigm shift, that the state will respect the will of the voters, and that all state employees and those institutions getting state money will comply - generously and not meanly - with the new law.
I would like your support in this matter, I think it is a very important one, not only for the care of suffering people here, but also concerning the botanical/medical research we could be doing in this state known for its educational and medical facilities.
I would appreciate your comments and support for this issue,
